Towed bodies are deployed to stabilise a sensor suite either contained in the towed body or at the end of a towed array. Tow cables may typically be between 300 and 500 metres behind the towed vessel depending upon the depth and speed.

Cost effective towed torpedo detection systems can be designed for the smallest of vessels and the use of composites can provide smaller lighter units without compromising structural strength, stability or acoustic performance.

Towed bodies must resist pitch and roll effects while maintaining a constant depth at a variety of speeds. The hydrodynamic form is critical and easy deployment / retrieval is essential at working sea states.

The acoustic window is tuned to the passive array system to minimise losses and often for higher frequency performance is typically a carbon fibre construction.
