Replacement of metallic structures, panelling and components with lightweight phenolic composites offer distinct advantages to warship safety and operational efficiency.

Phenolic composites differ from GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) by the substitution of a fire safe phenolic resin in place of the polyester resin. The use of glass reinforcement is unchaged.

Phenolic resin systems provide fir safety by the reduction or elimination of effects created by accidents, malfunctions or operational engagements.

  • Elimination of toxic fumes
  • Low spread of flame
  • Low heat release
  • No release of flammable vapours
  • Low smoke generation
  • Low emissions of CO2 and H20

Phenolic resins provide products that only char upto temperatures of 250deg C which retain 70% of their strength with minimal heat distortion, preventing collapse and catastrophic damage spread.

Complex 3D structures can be produced as integrally moulded units.

Phenolic products provide outstanding fire safety without compromising strength. They will not corrode or require painting. Phenolic composites offer long term, maintenance free components to replace steel and aluminium constructions.
