RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING ENGINEER
Tods Aerospace has a vacancy for Radiographic Testing Engineer.

Main duties:
- Radiographic Testing of composite assemblies
- Development of Radiographic Testing Techniques
- Supporting other Test Laboratory functions such as Ultrasonic Testing, Mechanical Testing and
Product Development.
Candidate qualifications:
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Current certification to a minimum of EN4179/NAS410 Level 2 RT or PCN Level 2 RT (aerospace sector)
- Capable of developing and writing RT Techniques
- Experience of operating digital radiographic systems would be an advantage
- Experience of Ultrasonic Testing and Bond Testing would be an advantage
- Adaptable, personally motivated with a continuous improvement mindset
- Experience of working with composite materials in a manufacturing environment would be an advantage
Hours of work:
Monday-Thursday 0730-1600, Friday 0730-1400
Other Information:
A competitive salary will be offered. Starting February 2012, this is a permanent position based in Somerset.
CHIEF STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
Department: New Product and Engineering
Reporting to: Director: New Product and Engineering
Skills & Qualifications
Have significant experience in aerospace engineering, fibre-reinforced composite materials and associated manufacturing processes. Be able to create innovative design solutions to demanding technical specification. Support the development of the manufacturing process to ensure the designs meet production and budgetary constraints. Be able to make instinctive design decisions with limited information in support of new product bids. Have the ability to work with and influence the performance of junior staff with a range of skills & experience. Must be a good communicator and be able to write and give technical presentations. Have a relevant engineering degree and further professional training throughout career. Be a competent user of NASTRAN PATRAN and have extensive experience of hand calculations.
Technical Responsibilities
Provide design philosophy and technical direction of design team. Develop those designs into a production ready product. Define and manage the process for meeting certification requirements.
Undertake design analysis as required to satisfy project requirements. Advise on material selection and processing. Development of expertise and design tools to meet Business needs.
Provide estimates for engineering work, complete engineering bid reports for bid reviews including project plans, costs and risk assessments.
Oversee and approve design project outputs including Technical Reports, Drawings, Concessions, Production Permits, Engineering Instructions, Declaration of Design Performance and Design Certificates. Ensure the project scope of work and technical specification is met in full. Use industry best practise to develop designs and incorporate design to cost and design for manufacture. Provide engineering technical and project support for other departments.
Functional Responsibilities
Develop the Engineering function in line with the strategic goals of the company. Support company sales initiatives by providing specialist engineering support for enquiries. Investigate the feasibility and provide supporting evidence of design solutions for bid proposals. Assist the company marketing strategy by presenting technical papers and presentations at industry seminars and customers. Support and mentoring engineers to develop their skills and competencies. Oversee and check their work and advise on professional development. Ensure all projects comply with the Company procedures. Establish and maintain technical library and documents. Other tasks in support of company strategy as directed by the Director New Product and Engineering.
PRINCIPAL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER
Department: New Product and Engineering
Reporting to: Chief Structural Engineer
Skills & Qualifications
Have experience in aerospace engineering, composite materials and associated manufacturing processes. Have a relevant engineering degree and further professional training throughout career. Have a minimum of five (5) years stress analysis experience including project ownership. Be a competent user of NASTRAN PATRAN and have extensive experience of hand calculations. Have knowledge of composite materials and be able to create innovative design solutions to demanding technical specification that meet production and budgetary constraints. Be able to make instinctive design decisions with limited information. Have the ability to give direction and influence the performance of junior staff with a range of skills & experience. Must be a good communicator and be able to write reports.
Technical Responsibilities
Undertake design tasks as defined by the Chief Structural Engineer using computer aided engineering (CAE) tools. In conjunction with the Chief Structural Engineer define design methodology and provide design solutions that satisfy design to cost and design for manufacture best practice.
Undertake design analysis as required to ensure the project scope of work and technical specification is met in full. Provide engineering technical support for other functions. Advise on material selection and processing. Develop those designs into production ready product that meets the requirement specification. Produce technical reports in support of analysis. Liaise with internal stakeholders, external suppliers and the customers and ensure that the New Product Introduction process is adhered to. Prepare technical proposals and quotations. Checking of analysis, technical reports and Engineering Instructions. Technical direction of Senior Structural Engineers, Structural Engineers and sub-contractors.
Functional Responsibilities
Ensuring all design activity is carried out to Company procedures or overriding customer requirements. Ensure project conformity to requirements.
When directed to be Project owner you will be responsible for design file management, project resource management, project schedule adherence, project budget management. Provide monthly reports to the Engineering Director on project performance.
Other task in support of company strategy as directed by the New Product and Engineering Director.
GRADUATE TRAINING SCHEME
This scheme offers a fast track for graduate trainees to senior positions within the business. The trainee will complete six modules over two years and will be assessed for a further year in their final position. Throughout their training they will be assigned mentors who will support their development and ensure they get the support they need from the company. The trainee will be required to report on their achievements at the end of each sub module and will attend an interview at the end of each full module, where they can provide feedback to their mentor.
