TODS DEFENCE MAKE THEIR BOW FOR THE US NAVYOne of the most formidable warships ever to be built, the US Navy Destroyer Zumwalt DDG (1000) is to be fitted with a Bow Sonar Dome designed and built by TODS DEFENCE. TODS DEFENCE has been contracted to supply two Bow Sonar Domes, the first for the lead vessel in the DDG1000 class during 2009. TODS DEFENCE Engineering and Design team has been working in conjunction with Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and the US Navy for the past five years in the design and development of the bow dome considering the specific structural and acoustic requirements. TODS DEFENCE is now entering the production phase of the main contract. Deliveries will coincide with the US ship build programme. Steve Burton, Managing Director TODS DEFENCE says: “We have been working with Raytheon on international projects for over twenty years. During the design phase of DDG 1000 we have further developed this working relationship by supporting Raytheon’s bids and subsequent role as mission systems integrator for all electronic and combat systems on this innovative 21st century ship-build programme. In so doing, we have been able to introduce our well-proven but cost-effective solutions for Bow Sonar Domes to the U.S. Navy for the first time”. |
