TODS MASS TRANSIT ON A FAST TRACK IN THE WEAR AND TEAR SECTOR

Contrary to the low activity in the new build sector of UK rolling stock building programme the Mass Transit Division of Tods, who specialise in the design, development and manufacture of lightweight composite furbishment products for passenger carriages and buses, continue to be busy in support of “the wear and tear service sector”.

The Portland-based production site currently undertakes a variety of maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) activities for a series of in-service passenger fleets, including toilet doors, galley drawers, nursing tables and other fittings in ‘heavy-wear’ areas.

John Munden, Tods Mass Transit Business Manager says: “We are able to offer operators across the mass transit sector a fast-track, high-quality MRO service for a range of components and internal panelling utilising durable, lightweight composite materials and laminates

“Tods Mass Transit themselves have supplied many original fittings aboard main line carriages, but what we are finding that operators are asking us to re-engineer other equipment where there have been operational shortfalls from their original design. Our in-house composite design and build capability, perfected for the international aerospace sector, allows us to produce a diverse range of bespoke lightweight, maintenance-free products to meet a quick turnaround of refurbishment and replacement deadlines”.
