Tods take a bow for technical award

TODS TAKE A BOW FOR A TECHNICAL AWARD

A rare external accolade to a defence industry sub-contractor, the Chairman’s Award for Innovation- Naval Ships Bronze Event, has been granted by BAE SYSTEMS to the W & J Tod (TODS) composites engineering group.

The 2005 award is in recognition of a joint structural justification programme, between the two companies, for the evaluation, design and manufacture of the first in class Bow Sonar Dome for the new Type 45 Frigate currently under construction.

On accepting the award on behalf of TODS, Technical Specialist Mike Lavender, said: “I am delighted to accept this award and thank all members of the TODS Type 45 Dome team for their contribution. TODS have an enviable record on the design and production of Sonar Domes, which are not only in service with the Royal Navy, but with many other navies. The concept for the Type 45 meant addressing a wide range of new challenges. In co-operation with BAE SYSTEMS design team, we have met all the physical and operational criteria applicable for this new generation of vessel.”
