S80 SUBMARINE SONAR BOW DOMES LARGE ON TECHNOLOGY –TODS DEFENCEIncorporating the most advanced composite materials, TODS DEFENCE has been contracted by Navantia, Spain’s leading shipbuilder for the design and construction of four sets of Sonar Bow Domes for the Spanish Navy’s S80 submarine programme. The Domes will be amongst the largest composite submarine bow structures to be designed and built by Portland based TODS DEFENCE, and will incorporate sophisticated ‘multifunctional windows’ technology to enhance the performance of underwater detection and warfare systems. Steve Burton, Managing Director TODS DEFENCE Limited said: “Hot on the heels of the successful design and build Bow Dome programme for the first three Astute submarine bow domes, this latest contract for the S80 submarine has had to address a number of new issues particularly with regard to the structural size of each bow set.
