NEW CONTRACTS WILL CREATE MORE ENGINEERING JOBS – TODSA single source agreement for the supply of composite engineered aerospace components, for the next five years, has been announced by Crewkerne-based W & J Tod Limited (TODS) at a specially convened Aerospace Supply Chain Development meeting with helicopter manufacturers AgustaWestland. Development engineers from both Somerset companies have been working closely on integrated design, development and communication protocols, over the past two years, to guarantee on-time in-budget manufacture and delivery of components. Addressing the meeting Richard Frost, Vice President - Procurement of AgustaWestland said: “70% of the components for a helicopter are outsourced to the supply chain, and it is critical for suppliers to sustain high quality and agreed delivery schedules. The international aerospace industry is highly competitive, and for us to maintain our own forward order book, we need the total support and expertise of companies such as TODS. We believe this newly formed preferred supplier partnership should realise £2million+ worth of on-going business each year for TODS.” This new understanding will underpin a major growth strategy for TODS, who have already commenced on a recruitment drive to increase their engineering workforce by 40% over the next 12 months. TODS are accredited suppliers, not only for AgustaWestland but also, with Airbus, BAe Systems, Contour and B/E Aerospace in the United States. The Company currently employ 80 people at two specialist aerospace production sites, in Crewkerne – for Premium Interiors and Aerospace Assemblies. In a separate announcement at the meeting, TODS Aerospace Business Director, Tom Hitchings revealed £9million worth of orders, over the next three years, for 8,000 aircraft floor seating plinths for new and retrofit programmes aboard Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft with five international carriers. |
