DSEi PRESS STATEMENT – STAND No S5 280

Expertise in the design and build of lightweight composite structures for high performance defence systems will be highlighted by the Tods Group, as their Aerospace and Defence arms demonstrate their lead position in defence industry supply chains at DSEi 2011.

To stay ahead in the development, innovation and application of composite materials, Tods has made major investment in state-of-the-art interactive ‘customer-linked’ digital design technology which is correlated directly to the latest production procedures at manufacturing sites at Crewkerne, Somerset and Portland Dorset. Tods carries ISO 9001 AS9100 and Accreditation status from many of the main international defence contractors allied to 60 years experience in composites.

For the aerospace sector specialisation is directed at design of weight-efficient structures and flooring for airframe application for both fixed wing and helicopter programmes. Current projects include lightweight structures for AgustaWestland’s latest military helicopter AW159 Wildcat, heat shields aboard Airbus A400M aircraft, ‘ultra-lightweight’ structures for the US military LEMV airship programme and a range of structural seating products aboard passenger aircraft.

The Marine division continues to add to its reputation with more than 25 Navies around the world with key design and build projects for a range of acoustic and stealth programmes, with Bow Sonar Domes for high profile Royal Navy Astute class submarines and Zumwaldt destroyers for the US Navy, as well as various other commissions from the Royal Navy fleet and the Spanish, Australian and Indian navies.

The acknowledged ‘Here by Design’ policy, from concept to through life of the project, will be demonstrated by Tods technical aerospace and marine engineers throughout DSEi.
