BOW SONAR DOMES

Acoustic and composite materials engineers TODS DEFENCE will highlight their specialist technical expertise, for the design and build of Bow Sonar Domes for four of the world’s leading warship-build programmes.

Announced is a production contract for two Bow Sonar Domes for the lead vessels in the US Navy DDG 1000 Zumwalt-Class destroyer programme.  The TODS DEFENCE technical team has been working closely with the US Navy and mission systems integrator Raytheon Systems Co in the design and development of the specialised underwater structural and acoustic enclosure which houses the ship’s warfare search and detection suite.

Also announced is the design and production contract for four Bow Sonar Domes and acoustic baffles for the new Spanish S80 submarine programme. TODS claim that the dome will be their biggest ever composite materials structure.

Portland-based TODS DEFENCE continues its rollout production programme of Bow Sonar Domes for the Royal Navy Type 45 Daring-Class Destroyers. With the first three installed, the remaining three will delivered to coincide with forward ship-build schedules.

After the successful design, build and installation of the Bow Sonar Dome for the Royal Navy’s submarine Astute, the second of three for HMS Ambush is currently undergoing installation and will be completed toward the end of 2008.

TODS DEFENCE stand will not only reflect their expertise in the design and development of Bow Sonar Dome technology, but also other composite material components for structural and acoustic enclosures for the marine industry.
