UDT CANNES - NEWS ROOM 'SPECIAL'RIGHT ON THE NOSE WITH SIXTH BOW SONAR DOMEThe sixth and final Bow Sonar Dome for the Type 45 ship build programme has been completed by Tods Defence and accepted by Ultra Electronics and BAE Systems. Closing a major contract with Ultra Electronics, which has been running since 2002, these sophisticated composite materials Bow Sonar Domes were specially designed and built by Tods to protect and optimise performance of the undersea detection sonar systems aboard the latest generation of Type 45 Royal Navy Destroyers. The first of class, HMS Daring, was recently commissioned, and Bow Domes two to four have been installed on HMS Dauntless, HMS Diamond and HMS Dragon The latest acceptance of the final Bow Dome will allow the remaining domes to be phased in against ship build schedules. Steve Burton, Managing Director Tods Defence says: “ Successful completion of Bow Sonar Domes for all of the Type 45 ships delivered on time and within budget has been a key achievement, and has generated worldwide interest.
